Lately, I've been waking up with creative ideas. This morning I woke up with a couple of decisions firmly made. It's not as if I go to sleep thinking "This is what I'll work on tonight." Which cars? And ... do you know about using Costco's discount to buy a car? (I used them and saved about $1,500 or more, so I'm a fan.)

Well, I've had a Saturn coupe for the last ten years and been quite satisfied, so I've been looking at the latest generation--the Saturn ION coupe. Saturns get great mileage, are one of the highest rated cars on the market in terms of safety (borne out by my own experience), and the coupes are pretty spiffy lookin' and far more spacious than they look from the outside ( ... )

As for the Costco discount, well, I'm not a Costco member so that's not an option for me. But--I'm curious--what's the program about?Membership would be easy to obtain, and it's only $48 for a year, as I recall. (I have a business membership as a freelancer.) Anyway, I went to the costco.com website, told them what kind of car I wanted, and they told me what dealership to visit. I made an appointment with the dealership, mentioning Costco, went in to talk to the particular salesperson they had for those deals, picked out the options I wanted (not many since Subarus come with most everything), then paid $500 above dealer cost on the total. I figured it saved me around $1,500 on my Impreza. No dickering, no arguing, it's flat rate, which I confess I appreciated. Besides, with Subarus, there's not a lot of room to change prices since they're so desireable ( ... )
