Yarzheit, mourning and remembrance

Yarzheit.com explains that the word "yarzheit" is the Yiddish name given to the anniversary of a person's death, usually as calculated on the Jewish calendar. The site says, "Literally it is a composite from the two German words 'yahr' meaning 'year' and 'zeit' meaning 'time'." Yarzheit is usually observed for one day. I was struck by a wave of grief fresher than anything I've felt since the earliest days after his death.

Yeah, I got hit with one of those, too, after leaving the cemetery and driving to the restaurant.....

Of course you aren't, and I believe this is exactly how those who have left us physically can remain with us spiritually. My friend Terry departed in 2005, but when I hear a certain song or think of a certain joke I still want to grab the phone and call him.

That is how I keep Terry in my memories, just as that is one way David will always be with you.
