1) I have not seen a movie in far too long, and I'm not sure why, except to say that I haven't been overwhelmed by the choices that theaters are offering me. I've heard really good things about LOGAN which, somehow, surprises me but has made me curious. What would people recommend I see ( Read more... )

I don't disagree about the moviescape -- I've not been wildly attracted to much lately.

That said, I followed some of the recs I've heard and caught "Lego Batman" this past week, and I have to say that while it was not quite as awesome as "The Lego Movie", it was a much better Batman movie than most of the live-action Batfilms of the last couple of decades -- and there is one absolutely outstandingly wacky but awesome bit during the climax that could ONLY happen in both a Lego movie and a Batman movie.

Also, while I haven't seen it, "Moana" is still in some of the second-run houses here, and I have heard enough good things about that one that I'd call it worth a look.

I never saw the first Lego movie but heard terrific things about it. The new one? I'm only minorly interested, I admit, but it's good to hear it's worth the time. It may be a fallback for me. I saw Moana and loved it; it's terrific. Thanks for the heads-up!

Have you heard much about "Score - a Film Music Documentary"? I saw a link to it and immediately got goosebumps. It appears to be right up my alley and possibly yours.

Have you seen Hidden Figures yet? One of my favorites of last year, and it's still out there. I also really loved Moana but I don't know if it's actually in theaters any more. Between the beautiful Pacific Islander design sensibility, and the ravishing, amazing sailing sequences, it's really one to see in the theaters if possible. I would go again, frankly.

And in keeping with my current obsession with All Things YouTube, I find my creativity has lately been charged up by watching videos on technique and process by other creative folks. At the moment I'm particularly fond of Mary Doodles and Shayda Campbell for drawing, lettering, and watercolors, but golly there's a whole universe of interesting artists out there, depending on what you find interesting.

And not directly related to anything, but just because I stumbled on it again and love this piece of music and not a lot of people seem to know it, here's Carl Orff's Gassenhauer (Street Song), which I find to be cheering, and full of joy.

I've seen both Hidden Figures and Moana and enjoyed them both enormously. I shall investigate your YouTube suggestions--thanks!
