Examining my privilege

I don't typically think of myself as "rich." Comparatively speaking, financially, I'd say I'm comfortably middle class, if such a thing still exists in these United States. When I worked as the take-out order cashier at an upscale (at the time) restaurant in posh Brentwood, CA, I often interacted with people of much greater wealth. I wasn't treated as an equal, oh no, but the classy ones treated me as a person, and I felt that was appropriate. If you are wearing 3 carat diamonds on your fingers while you hand me a credit card, we are worlds apart. (It's funny, but I never saw this in context of race, at the time.
