I remember feeling sorry for Bush at the time. He seemed like just a nice, dopey guy who was in way over his head...I don't feel sorry for him anymore.

My memories are so fragmented. C and I moved back into the city that Sunday. When the attack came on Tuesday morning, we had no cable or internet. C had been dozing on the couch with the radio on when they broke in with the news. It created a weird sense of disconnection. We sat in the living room surrounded by boxes, listening to events unfold like our grandparents would have. I didn't see the images until I went into work later in the day ( ... )

Seattle's ports are more likely to be attacked than our skyscrapers or the Needle.

I beg to differ if you're talking about the possibilities at that time.. When I took Computer Forensics courses we had a LOT of guest lecturers whose jobs were to keep infrastructure intact and lives safe in the PNW and who didn't consider us the general public. I don't know if you ever saw the news reports about the calls from FBI Headquarters to the Seattle office asking the height of the tallest building in Seattle after Torah Bora, but despite the incredible damage you could do at the ports (which one of the folks responsible for preventing such damage went over in horrifying detail) there were reasons for those calls.

>>he couldn't understand why people couldn't just pull themselves together and get back to work<<

Sort of reminds me of what happened with M leaving work due to his father's illness the other day. I wonder if Compassion 101 should be taught in schools?

Also, regarding Katie looking over her shoulder at the live pictures: I'm not that familiar with the 2001 Today Show set, but I'm guessing if they showed images over Katie's shoulder they would have likely been electronically inserted and not really there, unless a TV monitor was part of the set. Plus, she'd certainly have another monitor to look at in front of her. So, yeah, probably your memories were combining several parts of the broadcast.
