OK, so on September 30 I had my implanted defibrillator replaced. This is my third one in 11 years. First one lasted 4 years, the second one 7 years. We got another estimate for the replacement of the sewer line this morning. This one was $5,600. Yikes! They keep getting higher. Makes the first one look really good. We will probably get a few more estimates before we make our final decision ( Read more... )

Yesterday we started having trouble with the plumbing. The sink on the wet bar was making lots of really strange noises which is odd as we never use the wet bar sink. Wally started investigating. Turns out the sewer line from the house to the main sewer line was clogging up. Thankfully, it had not made anything in the house overflow. Plumber ( Read more... )

Just wanted to let everyone we are OK. No damage to the house or cars. Had a few branches and twigs come down, but nothing major. The electricity was off for 9 or 10 hours yesterday, but it's back on now. Nothing exciting going on. One thing, the cable modem is not working, so I am hooked up via phone line. We finally heard from my brother-in-law today. He is safe and well. My sister's house has some minor damage, lost shingles and such. My mother's house is demolished. Trees fell on it, and there is not much left. They are going to try to salvage some of the things in it, but the house itself is a total loss ( Read more... )

I talked to my sister today. She and my mother (who is 90) are going to drive over to Houston this afternoon to get away from Hurricane Katrina. They live right in the projected path of the storm and do not want to get stranded over there. It's going to be a long drive for them. I guess I had better pick things up around the house.
