Vegan make up

May 09, 2007 16:21

So, I am making the transition to veganism. After 7 years of vegetarianism, I've realised it just doesn't cut it anymore - I've felt like a hypocrite for a while now because the principles I wanted to adhere to when choosing not to eat meat and fish were still not being accommodated. Anyway, I've got the food sorted but sticking points are make-up ( Read more... )

Pah! Vegans are weak! If you want to go through life not hurting anything, become a fruitarian! :D

Thought its been illegal to test cosmetics on animals for a long time? 'Suppose they could have been tested in other countries, and old school cosmetics would be a problem as well...

I'm not sure exactly how it works - it may be done in other countries like you suggest but I do know most cosmetics companies directly or indirectly do support animal testing :( My vanity has had me sticking my head in the sand about this for too long - it's quite scary when you do investigate a bit.

I think some cosmetics have animal products in them, too.

Stargazer products are 100% vegan. Not always the best quality, but they're passable enough ^_____^

I think a lot have lanolin etc in. Thanks, I didn't know about stargazer, I hope that goes for their hair dyes too - after make-up that may be the next hurdle!

Wow thats a huge step, good luck with it though! I think Barry M is another one thats safe. If you need a hand getting rid of your mac stuff I'd be intrested if you plan to sell it!

Thank you! I've just read something about Barry M using ingredients others have tested for them, or something but I may consider them if I can't find anything else.

I don't have loads of MAC, just my daily staples so I'll probably just use it up but thanks :) Parting with my beloved Vivienne Westwood heels may be a way off yet so it's likely to be a slow transition!

oh shite I never realised that, I used to have a massive list of the stuff thats safe and all the bad stuff too, it was great because it was everything from make up to house hold products that you just dont think about, cant remember where it was from now but I'll have a sout about for something similar for you.
I did wonder how yopu would cope with leaving V.W behind, you'll get there my lovely! I'll support you just like your supporting me on the diet front!

Sorry for being cheeky bout the make-up but its always worth getting first dibs on stuff that might be up for grabs, I'm sure you understand, heehee

Thanks! I will definitely need that support, hehe! I have to say though, one week on from wondering how I would ever give up my favourite shoes and handbags, it is looking less difficult already.

And I don't think it was cheeky at all to ask about the MAC - if I were a little more committed you'd have been doing me a huge favour :)

i'd suggest Dr Hauschka products.
(http://www.drhauschka.co.uk/index.php?source=hauschkacouk i hope the link works)

not only they dont test on animals but they dont have chemicals in the products - good for the animals and you too! also every component they use are from organic cultures.

im writing my diploma essay about this company so feel free to ask (:
