I owned Peter Freestone's memoir of Freddie Mercury for FIVE YEARS before I read it, purely because I did not want to find out anything bad about Freddie Mercury.

It's such a bummer when good artists turn out to be awful people, but I believe with you that you can separate the person from the work.

Hey! :) I'm sorry I didn't get back to your comment in the icon post. It's good to see (well, read!) you again! :D :D

I think you have the right idea, but I'm so nosy, though, that I can't quite keep myself from learning more about my fave celebs or people I admire! ;)

i dont think you should at all think your feeling should be lessened by reading these things.
these things make people who they are. you could say you dont want to read about the more personal stories about your idols but essentially your just blocking out stories about who they really are, thats to say that everything your reading is fact.
i know its hard to read, see and listen to these things but its something that happened in these people lives, not something that they did repeatedly or necessarily thought was right (not that im defending this).
weve all done stupid things and done them again even though we knew they were wrong.
all i can say is our idols are human too
but i can definitely see where your both coming from

Yeah, I see what you're saying. :) I don't think I'm really ignoring or pretending that the more negative stories about Cook didn't happen; I'm just separating the personal figure from the public figure, I guess. We have all done stupid things, true... I suppose it's just that I think hurting someone else physically or emotionally crosses the line from "stupid" to "just not right at all"! ;)

I do know what you mean, though. :) Though it's a shame that they happened, these things did go on in Peter Cook's life, and they are a part of who he was.
