This is so amazing, there's no words. Just. Wow. Fantastic. I've been thinking about doing a fic about Roche, but now that I know this is out there, that's one less bunny I'm gonna worry about. No way anything could top this. Just. Yeah. Wow. Added to my memories like woah, and. Oh man that last line, and the slow descent, and...gorgeous.
I'm surprised there aren't more fics about the Roche case, really, given that Rorschach is such a popular character, and it's a huge turning point in his life.
This is a masterpiece. The writing's professional-grade, with the amazingly unreliable narrator; and you've told me things about Rorschach and about Walter I never knew before. Brilliant.
This fanfic is incredibly impressive. I love the bits with the journal (and the last line), his thoughts about Jasmin, the mice ... it's really great. So visceral. I can tell you put a lot of work into it and it was well worth it. Great work.
I loved the little insights into Rorschach's mind, such as how he really feels about his interrogation technique, the journals, and all the little points where he reflects on society. The level of detail is superb and I totally respect the amount of research you did to make it realistic. The Roche case I think has always been hard to write for, and yours does a fantastic job of giving a much fuller and extensive backstory than many others out there.
And I love the change of perspective in the last line.
Doing research is probably the most enjoyable bit about writing for me, weirdly. (The next most enjoyable bit would be coming up with silly similes for things. Similes are awesome.)
Thanks! IMO, Rorschach wouldn't be half as interesting without his nasty bits. I wasn't sure if I'd made him enough of a douchebag, because anti heroes always seem kind of badass and cool, and I didn't want to lose sight of the fact that he could be a messed-up little bully. (Who shuts old men in refrigerators.)
