Damn, this was sad. But, you know, probably correct considering they'd both have PTSD. I think it's cute that your Dan wants to see news about New York -- it's because he's homesick and wants to keep tabs on Veidt , isn't it? Aww.

It was originally going to be part of a longer fic that showed them getting over stuff and dealing with things over the years (which, IMO, would have been more interesting, albeit much harder to write).
But my brain was like, "Eh, I'm only interested in angst right now, LET'S HAVE SOME 'WE WERE COMPLICIT WITH THE MURDER OF THOUSANDS' DYSFUNCTION AND WOE."
Someone has to keep tabs on Veidt. The man is a fabulous blond trainwreck.
She spends time apart from Daniel, and discovers that drinking doesn't help. It just makes her see the world through a tacky Dutch Angle, and she ends up laughing at things that aren't funny. Like father, like daughter.
I love the mood of this. You captured the lonely hotel room feel well.
There are so many wonderful lines here that if I tried to quote them all back at you I'd just be quoting the entire thing. This is one of those things where it is like you are writing canon at us, and it's so so good but so sad and darn it, Watchmen, be a happier source material. >:|
("We have to get jobs," Laurie has said, many times.
"I guess," Dan has replied, many times.) That is scary perfect.
I like to imagine that they'll have their Badass Superhero Couple moments, because I am a sap. It's just... I can't imagine them walking away from Karnak and not spending the next few weeks/months/years in a 'OH GOD WE SUCK' blue funk.

If it was happy though, would we like it as much as we do? *eyeshift*
