Posted this on Tumblr, figured I would repost it here because I think this needs to be said instead of what I'm seeing on Tumblr (and possibly LJ, but I haven't checked). As a fan of crossovers, I have to say something. I see a lot of "No crossovers!!!" posts regarding the fact that Sherlock actors are in huge non-Sherlock movies with huge fan ( Read more... )

I actually have an idea for that particular crossover (Kirk and Spock get sent back in time to 2012 and land in London, and they see Sherlock's picture in the newspaper and think it's the bad guy from the new movie so they try and stop him and are shocked it really isn't him) but I'm terrified to write it for fear of the "NO CROSSOVERS!!!" hate going on.

I'll probably write it once the movie comes out, haters or not. I'm just expecting a shitload of flames from the Star Trek fandom.

Or I can see one where Kirk and Spock are in 2012 London because of time travel, and they can't go back because they need whales or whatever, and Sherlock meets them and his attempts at deduction all just don't add up, so he gets frustrated and starts following them around.

I actually find that crossovers generally are cool, because the authors have to pay attention to characterization, and crossovers because there's the same actor have the potential to be a really uniquely meta kind of funny :-) It's actually non-crossover fics where sometimes I see authors that don't completely don't get the difference between actors and characters, and they'll cut and paste the same personality onto everything that the actor's characters or even RPF, but when that happens I just find another fic, so people who leave nasty comments just want to make trouble :-(

Although, I don't think that'll be such a problem with Star Trek... the person that I think Cumberbatch is playing in Star Trek ;-) definitely could be considered a high-functioning

Now see, that's a good idea, too. And it's plausible. And now I kind of want to write it. ::nods ( ... )
