Because it's short for gymnasium, and I don't like to lose track of that? I dunno. I was taught that spelling somewhere, probably in England, but that doesn't mean it's right even there.
I've always like it better with the n, espeically for the consonance:
It's probably because I say it with the n. Since the n is blended with the m in Gymnasium, I keep it that way when I shorten it.
I pronounce "ancient" very uniquely as well. Ank-shee-int, with each sound specified. Instead of the rather barbaric Ain-Chunt or Aink-Chunt, which is popular now.

I thought it was a typo at first, then you kept spelling it that way. It's not the official abbreviation, but knowing what it's short for and paying attention to context it wasn't exactly hard to figure out what you meant.
