Stick with it?

Okay, here's a topic...does the advice that everyone "stick with it" really apply to everyone who wants to be a writer?....discuss amongst yourselves.

Here's the deal.  Are there some people that just really don't have what it takes to be a writer?  Or should everyone keep querying indefinitely?  Is it realistic that we keep encouraging each other ( Read more... )

acceptance, query, rejection

I do believe writers should keep trying. I think it would be helpful if the review boards would give some feedback or direction to the writer. The writer may only need to make subtle changes. Sometimes it takes years for actors and writers to be discovered. Some are lucky to be discovered for who they are. Others sometimes have to try harder and write what the public demands or trend of interest. If writing is your passion, continue, Van Gogh wasn't famous until he had past away, he only sold one painting to his brother, but he did what he loved. I admire that.

True, if it is your passion you should pursue it.

But here's the problem with the internet - there's no real human connection. We're all milling around in cyberspace and can only react to what is put up on the screen. Personally I've appreciated the support of the writing community, you can't find that so easily just anywhere. So if some poor hack (could be me included) takes the encouragement and keeps plugging along, I guess it's worth it for the results the encouragement gives to those who do go on to be published.

It's an interesting perspective I hadn't yet considered. To be honest, the best thing to do is just to suggest that they revise their manuscript and make sure it is publishable in anyway. Another good thing is taking writing courses so they can perfect their art. If anyone is truly serious about this career, they know that it consists on constant editing, discipline and learning. If it's not for them or they're just tired of getting rejected left and right, they'll do whatever is best for them.

By the way, I stumbled upon your journal on google and I find it interesting to read. Mind if I add you? :)
