Panic! At the Schoolyard

First, before I even start this entry, which is probably going to be all over the place, I'd just like to say this:

Thank you, Mom, from the bottom of my heart and the depths of my soul and the roots of my hair (color: undisclosed) for being what I can ONLY NOW fully come to recognize as extremely strong, utterly selfless, and totally empathetic ( Read more... )

Is it just in school or have you noticed it in other situations as well, like birthday parties or while school shopping? Sometimes, something as easy as just telling him in a soothing voice he'll be fine can do wonders before it becomes an issue he gets worked up about.

And, good job on getting him help now, and going through the school to do it.

Currently it is just the actual act of getting to school. Once he is in the school building he is ok. This morning it happened again, and believe me I used all kinds of soothing words and I've been teaching him self-talk and NONE OF IT did much at all. My mantra with my kids is that "You CAN do anything, no matter how hard it seems right now, you WILL overcome it." So I say that a lot in hopes that will one day sink in. It's going to be a process though. He's seeing the school counselor tomorrow for his first official session.

Who cares where things come from? Here they are, whether they're learned, inherited, or bought at a pawn shop. Better to not worry about where they started and just focus everything on ending them.

That's a good point. I am inherently interested in these types of things, though, so I'm still probably going to wonder.

Don't get me wrong, it's interesting as hell. Lord knows I've written plenty about it myself.

Yes, I definitely remember going through the same exact feelings so I empathize deeply with him, which is why it is so supremely important to me that I help him as much as possible ( ... )
