I'm almost certain I'm going with the Digital Rebel XTi (the 10 megapixel one). I'm comparison-shopping for prices right now. Do you know anything about how to buy lenses? I am a little intimidated by that aspect right now.

Yay, XTi! I thought about upgrading my XT to the XTi, but ultimately, after doing my research, i decided I was better off spending that money on new lenses. I'm still very much a newbie, but in terms of lenses, I recommend getting the lens that you can purchase with the body (18-55mm). it's decent, and you can't buy it separately or get a comparable lens for anywhere near the price. If you're buying an additional lens, I've been pretty happy with having a 75mm - 300mm macro zoom lens. The two together have been sufficient for me for the past year.

Beyond that, I was planning to buy this lens, because it's so cheap and fast, and most of the "must have" lens lists I've seen have this on it. (It's a prime lens.) I would also love love love a wide-angle lens, but I haven't found one that's so much wider than the one that comes with the body to make it worth the price.

I just bought the camera and the lens that comes with it! I'm so excited! I will also look into the other lenses you mentioned. The macro is for close-ups, right? What's a prime lens?

You may be a newbie, but you know more than me. Do you have any good photography links?
