i am going to be moving in the next few months and because of my money situation and this HUGE sense of purging so many things out of my life, i'm going to have as little furniture as possible

you know, you could get those sisal mats from, say, Cost Plus or Pier one, and use those as a base layer for some persian-looking rugs. If you're on a budget, you can actually find some ok looking ones at Target and Home Depot. If you want to "age" them a little, take them outside on the driveway, seriously dilute some bleach in water and spray it on (evenly!) to fade them, and then use tea or coffee to stain them.
