Dayton Loft

Dec 28, 2008 17:15

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've gotten a lot of inspiration from posts on here... I recently moved in to a loft in downtown Dayton, Ohio and I've never lived anyplace I would consider anywhere near saucy. My husband and I are both very cluttered people. We've had a constant battle with it and it's always cramped out style. We're currently trying to create something between minimal and eclectic with a modern and contemporary feel. Basically, we both feel 30 coming at us (him sooner than I, but none the less...) we're tired of living like hobos or college kids. Just because we work in music doesn't mean we have to live in a pile of pizza boxes and music magazines.

That said, I think we're well on the way to appreciating our dream for our first "grown-up" style place where there's no band posters on the walls and no hand me downs. We've managed to not put a single thing on a credit card and have paid cash for all things in our home. I'd call it sauce on the cheap. Seeing as how I like to find sales and bargains a lot.

I adore our front door.

when you first walk in, you're greeted by this lovely brick wall. Original from the 1820s! (The Cannery lofts are in an old converted warehouse...)

The corners of the bedrooms are glass. That's the guest bedroom... we won't go in there, it's a bit messy, but there's a peek.

Here's our bedroom, we need something to hang over the bed for sure. And yes, that's a little set of stairs at the foot of the bed for my chihuahua!

Our totally un-saucy vic firth drum stick cabinet which is being used as a tv stand. Boo. We're working on it.

Let's move on to the parts I like the best!

I really like our bathroom mirrors. They're like this in both bathrooms.

Coming out of the bedroom, you'll see the dining room and living room.

Right outside of the bedroom door, however, is my art table where I use my computer and make crafts and what not.

Across the hall from this is the dining area. I was thrilled that we were able to find a place with enough space for the table.

To the left of the table, is our kitchen. It's set up in a very functional manner and having the huge counter is so nice for preparing food. It's probably the most counter space I've ever had. There's room on the other side of the counter for bar stools, which we haven't gotten around to buying yet.

I think my spice rack is rather saucy!

Looking over the kitchen counter, you'll see my living room.
We tried to add color and texture by using different colors. I think it all works together pretty well.

This was an ikea book shelf turned on it's side with casters screwed into it. I think the red pops really well.

This is an autographed Ansel Adams book I found in my mom's garage!

Big dumb un-saucy tv. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but we're in the market for a unit to put it on/in so that it's morphs better into the room.

Here's the kitchen, photo taken from the dining room.

A lot of our art is really personal. This is set of demo CD insert artwork I made for my husband's band when we first met when I was 19. The ukulele, he bought me in Seattle when his band was on tour. Some where down the hall, I have a piece of palm tree bark that he got me in Florida hanging on the wall. We're picky about what he hang up because we want it to mean something to us, so it's been slow going on getting the walls covered, but with a brick wall this size, I don't think there's any such thing as "too much" art.

This is the view you'd see walking back toward the front door from the living room!

Thanks for stopping by! Be kind haha. It's my first attempt at the sauce!
