I took these photos way back when we first moved into our house (2.5 years ago - we were still working on it then as well), so I really need to take some updated photos. The cabinets were the window-pane type, but they were mostly broken. We took the wooden window pane area out and replaced it with solid wood... and painted it. Adding the butcher block cart really helped with a little extra space to work and storage. The appliances were given to us as hand-me-downs. Again, these are old photos, but this can give you an idea of what we did originally with our little kitchen on a low budget!
Yeah we just painted everything. Eventually we want to replace everything, but it's just not in the card right now. I will say, though, it's amazing what a little paint can do! Good luck!

I would totally do a similar thing (with teal instead of pink) if my leasing office wasn't so cranky about painting.
