Better day, but still not great. Talked to mom about the good ol' black pit of despair. She wants me to "talk to someone." Most universities offer counseling to students for free. Medication, however, will have to come from a psychiatrist, and those do cost money -- but most insurance plans at least have emergency psychiatric coverage, good for a few appointments in a time of crisis.

It's pretty well established at this point that talk therapy + meds has the best success rate for depression. Don't get on meds if you're not ready, though. No sense making another choice you'll beat yourself up over, you know?

Yeah, through health services we get one or two free sessions, and after that we have to pay for it. And I'm pretty sure we have psychiatrists on board because I have a couple friends here who are on various anti-anxiety/depression meds which they get prescribed here.

I'm really torn about the meds thing. It's kind of my same view as Adderall, which I've got a script for, I don't like having to rely on medication to be a functioning member of society, but I'm not so naive as to believe that sometimes it isn't necessary. I just don't know if I'm quite at that point yet.

Blaaaaah.
