I just ignore all of the assigned class systems in RW (FUCK NO PENELO HAD AN AXE). And most of the plot. And a ton of the characterization. I mostly just go with "Vaan becomes leader of a veritable city of sky pirates' and "Vaan and Penelo <3 eachother" and "Tomaj is kinda awesome." And "The crew spends their downtime arguing on the shipbound LJ". The rest? EH. I am surprisingly endeared to the bird people, though.

the worst is when you get to Ashe, though. What. The. Hell. Game. Why god's green earth did you give her a FLAMETHROWER...BOMB...THING and not a SWORD? The Queen of Dalmasca needs no silly ranged attacks! It just didn't have the balls to give Basch back his bow, man. Or make Vaan the white mage. LIKE HE WAS IN MY GAME.

Ashe. Freaking. Has. A. Sword. It. Is. In. Her. Character. Art. WTFBBQ.

I sort of loved that Ba'Gamman was a playable character. I don't care if he doesn't show up again, that made me happy. (But what is this thing he has with kidnapping teenage girls?)

Vaan was White Mage in my game, too. Penelo got ninja swords.
