East Coast achieved

So I'm here, waiting for friends to come back from seeing a play in order to pick me up. I'm early, and we all expected me to be late. Like my arrival at Chicago--I had a perfect afternoon planned with interesting people, but the train in was so late due to an engine blow up at Grand Junction and an engine shuffle in Denver that I got hustled off ( Read more... )

I have to say I find your approach to writing so utterly alien that it's rather fascinating. I wonder how it translates into taste for different authors? Of course there are writers like Tolkien, who is (I can recognize) intensely visual-when I ran a campaign set in Middle-Earth I used Big Eyes Small Mouth, because its anime-based visual storytelling was the best fit I could find-but is also so totally aware of nuances of sound and syntax and etymology that his prose is a delight to me. But I speculate that some writers appeal more to one or the other.

A little too late to matter, but: prairie dogs in Colorado carry bubonic plague. It is very unlikely but not impossible to catch it if a flea hops off the prairie dog and onto you, or your canine companion; a kid who lives in the foothills but attends the same high school my kids went to died of plague this summer.

You are so sanguine about your journey! I can see why you prefer trains to airplanes: if you were flying, "so late due to an engine blow up at Grand Junction and an engine shuffle in Denver" you wouldn't be writing those words--at least not without a human medium channeling them. Enjoy Vermont--glad those plans worked out--and remember that I'm a phone call away in case other plans do not!

Ah... I missed that. I'd had a Huh?? moment when I saw the male pronoun and was worried for a moment that I'd misgendered him previously.
