Writing process and teaching

I thought heleninwales had useful stuff to say about the frustrations of teaching writing, or even discussing process. Not that it isn't worth the effort. Not that it isn't helpful. But sometimes writers, in striving to find enlightenment, can talk right past one another.

I'm glad my post was useful. It took three goes and most of the morning to get anywhere near what I wanted to say. :)

Also, serendipity strikes! When I listed types of writing where description is paramount, I forgot travel writing. rezendi has just posted these amazing character studies. No plot or background, but the description really creates a vivid impression of the people he met.

My main frustrations are either that I think I'm not making sense, or have nothing useful to say. :)

I think sometimes we writers can talk completely past each other--the discussion that heleninwales referred to made my eyes totally glaze, though obviously it was helpful to the poster.

People tend to forget the second part of any conversation, listening.
