A springtime riff about impossible things.

What impossible things did you want as a kid?

wish fulfillment, behavior, kids

Levitation-- and I still want it, though perhaps not as strongly.

Oh yeah, levitation. Big time!

I wanted to be part of a community of people who had all read Tolkien.

Believe me, I thought that would be impossible.

Yes! So did I, for two years, until Glen started up the society. People have marveled that I would travel all day on the bus, with four mile walks at either end, to attend meetings, but I would have gone a lot farther.

Ohhhhh yes! I started a novel about a young witch when I was around 13, but someone convinced me that no one would publish it because witches were "eeevil."

On extraterrestrials, I remember once having a very vivid dream that I was watching a news bulletin that contact had been made and we were in the middle of sensitive diplomatic negotiations. I was so excited, and was it ever a let-down to wake up and realize it was all a dream ( ... )

Actually, I too wanted a tail, only one like a cat. I still do, in fact. I also wanted the cats to talk to me, and still would like that too, but know that their conversation would be a lot more repetitive than I realized, back then. I thought they'd understand and be interested in me, for some reason (even more impossible than speech, for the cats I know).

I had a classmate in grammar school who organized her friends to be cats, and they had cat speech. At the time I was too interested in castles and swords and adventure to be interested, but when I think back . . . how cool!

Lots cooler than actual cat speech would be, even though I'd still love for it to happen.

My sons had a club whose initiation involved eating cat food, which is much less imaginative, but does take courage, if you're 7.

Urgle! Though kids that age will try anything . . .

I remember an incident with my sister and her age-mate next door and caterpillars . . .
