Totally resonated with the post. I have two girls: one is seven and the other one. So, my writing plain dips. I write, when I have the time and space - which is at night. ;)
I have several friends who were able to work at night. It also helped that their kids would crash at a civilized hour. Both mine turned out to be night owls; with the first, I used to get teary around ten, when I was stupefied with exhaustion, and she still had an hour or two of energy to go, and I was certain I had the only baby in the world that preferred to go to bed at midnight.
Now, with her 29 and the second one 18, this house is busy pretty much all night, and many is the time when I rise at four or so, and they are all just going to bed!
Thank you for this! As a brand-new parent and aspiring writer, I've been wondering how I was ever going to find time to finish that (those) novel(s); it's good to have some advice to ponder.
I thought that's what televisions were for! *g* (Well, that's how I got my dissertation written, anyway, but I guess I would have had a harder time justifying it to myself if it hadn't been a one-time project...) I've been trying to schedule the household chores for the last month or so, which I've never done before. It's nice, though, because if I know that laundry happens on Monday and Thursday, then I don't feel bad about ignoring the whole huge pile on Tuesday and writing (or napping--generally napping) instead.
