Comics and Culture in the Philippines

I haven't been in the Philippines in years, but they used to sell them on the street and in the markets along with the tabloids and cigs and mint candies. Too low-end to sell in malls & bookstores.

Those old comics look real interesting! Too bad they're not available anymore, it would've been fun to read them. Local comics aren't very common here nowadays because I think more people watch TV for entertainment. Telenovelas are very big here. There are still a couple of comic strips that appear in local newspapers, my favorite is Pugad Baboy, and they still have a of references to politics and pop culture.

Just out of curiosity, what are the other reasons why you want to speak Tagalog? :)
