And I think it makes sense that you complain about the end of Avatar, but not Naruto's continued optimism. The way Aang found his solution was. Really, really convenient. I don't think Naruto is going to find his solutions that easily. A magic turtle isn't going to help Naruto find a way to save Sasuke. He's going to have to find his own way. Also Naruto's morality doesn't seem as shoved down our throat as Aang's was. That helps a lot.
Yeah, I think that's the problem. I'm not hurt that Avatar gave Aang a way out while still maintaining his values. That's somewhat expected. What bothers me is that I never felt like there was a risk in it, or like it was difficult. We're told that what he's doing is dangerous, but it's really just an informed danger, and only makes him look more selfish the way it's carried off.
I also feel like they didn't do as good of a job as they should have making me care about Aang's values. But that's another rant.
Yeah, exactly. It was kind of like "Aang is fighting the Fire Lord. It's scary! It is! BECAUSE WE SAY SO." I was actually a lot more invested in Sokka and Toph's fight during the finale than I was in Aang's. They presented the danger Sokka and Toph were in a lot more effectively.
And yeah, I agree. The writers kind of acted like we were supposed to care about Aang's values by default or something.
Yeah, exactly. It's like it was just taken for granted that we would care about Aang's values and be invested in him getting the girl he wants just because he's the hero and we like him. And, er, no. It doesn't work like that. I can like a character, think he's fun, and still not give a shit about what he thinks about a lot of things if the writers don't give me a reason to.
I read the chapter last night and I was like "...", the guy with the biggest bomb gets to rule the world so it was more "whatever". I am glad I don't read the discussion, several times I have abstained from wanting to throtle people for just being plain stupid.
Pain was not very complex, he is powerful but apart from that, there is nothing else there apart fromt his desire to rip the world apart with the greatest pain possible which does not guarantee peace in my opinion. I agree with you that Itachi was the more complex of the characters we got in Naruto and damn it, he is dead (I am so disappointed!) I wish he could have lasted a little more.
All I have to say is that I personally can't wait to see Sasuke arrive in Konoha to find it not there. I think he is going to feel cheated again. Also, is it really bad that I want grandpa frog to be okay? ;_;
Maybe I should be happy that for once people seem to be enjoying reading it.
On the other hand, they seem to enjoy it best when they don't understand it, so...
I feel cheated on Sasuke's behalf. What's the point of aiming him at Konoha only to have someone else level it? I mean, really, Akatsuki, bad planning there. It makes it a lot harder to want to punish everyone. But then, maybe that's the point? Either way, I want to see his reaction to that too.
I don't think there's anything at all wrong with wanting the old frog to be okay. Honestly, I <3 the frogs. They give me the giggles.
I freaking love the old frogs so I am like NOOOOOO!! no more frog sage death!
I think that is the point, Kishi might want to show that despite all the talk about destroying Konoha, once Sasuke is confronted with the reality of it, he might realize that probably that is not what he wanted. I understand Sasuke's desire to destroy the village, Pain's reasons were to show more his godmod and I hated it. i personally want Naruto to get us some tasty revenge for Jiraiya by bitchslapping both Pain and Nagato to kingdom come.
Just to make it clear, I don't think there's any problem liking him. I can totally understand liking him. His background does make sense, for what it is, and if people go for that, I get it. I mostly find him fun, and that's me. It's just people who act like he's deep and some kind of special flower who kill me.
I just think he's incredibly fun to tease. XD;
As for the second point--I wouldn't have believed it myself, honestly, but there it was. Clearly people haven't been reading the same manga as me.
Yeah, I thought of Naruto saying he's stay the fool immediately. I don't get it.These people don't seem to understand the genre, or the character's personality, and they have a pretty narrow view of what maturity means.
Naruto is not going to give up on Sasuke. You'd think that would have sunk in by now.
I wrote like three paragraphs about Itachi, realized that two and a half of them were on a tangent, and then that I'd forgotten what the original point was.
