When it's done perfectly, the Impala is a plot tool (a vehicle in motion), a stationary setting (a home for the characters) and a character (a subject of its own right in the scene), all at the same time. Look here. You have to see it in motion (in video) to get the full effect of the camera swooping in around her, settling for a moment, then lifting back up as she moves on. Done well, it's not busy camera work at all, but like a natural wave drifting up in the Impala's wake.
This (from part one) is wonderfully put and so true. In a way, the show lasting long enough to build a history is kind of like that.
