I love that seasons went into this moment. I love that it all added up. I love how much it all meant.
Yup, S4 made the producers/writers look so smart and calculating, like they really did know what they were doing. That was the season that elevated the series to being so much more than a silly genre show.
What happens in S6 remains to be seen, if they manage to come back up to S4 standards. I have serious doubts, but who knows. But, at this point, S4 is their collective best effort, IMO.
So much wasted potential with Alastair! I was pissed they killed him off so quickly, and so lamely. You just know Dean had a very Stockholm Syndrome relationship with Alastair once he got off the rack.
I thought they way they killed him was very awesome, I mean Sam saving Dean for a change, is always nice BUT I hated that we didn't get to see more of him in this meatsuit. I loved Christopher Heyerdahl's Alastair so much. Maybe they can bring him back in a flashback, I would love that.
Season 4 is my favorite season. The addition of the angels really put the show on another level for me. I love season 2 for its overall storyline and the playful relationship between the brothers but season 4 just blew me away. The angels, Castiel, Young Mary and John, Alastair which I adore.... It started spectactular, had a little low but finished amazingly.
Perfect summary. This season was so well-written and coherent, and like you said, it meant so much. All of it was leading to something, all of it made sense. So gorgeous. It raised my expectations sky-high... I felt that this show was finally stepping into its place in TV history.
Gorgeous stuff. I agree, it's hard to rewatch it, because everything steps into the next thing. It ceases to be episodic, and starts reading like a novel. I also agree with the disappointment at how they dropped the ball on the PTSD, but with so much good stuff around it, and with a superb actor in the role, they managed to skate by on that.
<3 I'm so glad you loved it! I knew you would. <3 DEEEEEAN.
My god, Jensen was phenomenal this season. SO many little moments, in addition to the big ones. He did something quite special with character continuity this season, and 90% of it depended solely on him. It was sublime.
