So Sylvia and I have decided that we are going to watch all the classic movies that we've never actually seen before. Right now, we're in the middle of Star Wars and have just finished the prequels. Some thoughts ( Read more... )

Are you going to watch the original trilogy too or had you already seen them? I remember so little about the prequels, other than being constantly annoyed by Anakin & Jar Jar Binks, and really liking the Franken-Vader scene at the end of the 3rd ^_^

ooh, the (first two) godather movies are great, watch them next! Have you seen any Bond at all, and how ambitious are y'all getting (do you want to see absolutely EVERY Bond film ever, or just one of each actor or something? (I highly recommend You Only Live Twice)

In any case, sounds like a fun plan ^_^

Haven't seen them, and we are planning to watch them too.

I have seen not a single Bond movie. Neither has Sylvia. Probably all of them, I think. We're pretty ambitious. =P

Everybody who had seen the Original Trilogy at the time the first prequel came out, which was 99% of its audience, knew Sidious was Palpatine instantly, so no, not meant to be a surprise. Yes, Anakin is indeed a fucking dumbass. But I love Obi-Wan too.

When you get to James Bond, you will be ahead of me. Yes, it's true, I am waist deep in The Avengers and MFU and to a lesser extent Get Smart and I have never seen a James Bond movie. I've seen parts of some of them, and most of Casino Royale, but with RiffTrax. You'll have to tell me what you think of Goldfinger and On Her Majesty's Secret Service, because Honor Blackman and Diana Rigg respectively are in those.

Did you watch the original trilogy first? The intended viewing order of the films is weird, until you realize that the "I am your father" revelation would have been extremely anticlimactic if the prequels had come first :-P

And hey! You might not have seen this before, then? The Backstroke of the West is pretty funny.

No, we watched the prequels first. It's not like, with popular culture being what it is, that we were going to be at all surprised by, "I am your father" anyway, so we decided to go in chronological (narrative) order. But yeah, I totally get how when the original trilogy first came out, that was a huge shock. Must've been fun.

I was a fan of the original trilogy as a kid, and even though the prequels aren't as good imo, they did answer questions that I've had since I could understand storylines. (I never understood what the hell happened to Vader to put him in that suit. Now I know!)
