So Sylvia and I have decided that we are going to watch all the classic movies that we've never actually seen before. Right now, we're in the middle of Star Wars and have just finished the prequels. Some thoughts:
1. I want an Obi-Wan. What is this? I am normally not swayed at all by Ewan McGregor or men with beards, but damn if he doesn't make it work. *shakes fist ineffectually*
2. "See, Anakin, if you hadn't listened to him, you'd still be pretty, and you'd still have Padme. Now nobody wants you." --Sylvia, wrapping up the movies.
3. People have been trying to kill Padme throughout all three movies and that's how she dies? Man, that's gotta suck.
4. That Palpatine-as-Darth-Sidious revelation wasn't supposed to be a surprise at all, right? Because we had that pegged from very early on in the first movie, and we are entirely ignorant of all but the major plot points. And by "major plot points" I mean "plot points we have picked up through the pervasiveness of popular culture". It made for some entertaining shouting at the TV, though. "Don't listen to him! He's evil! EVIL!" and "Anakin, you are a fucking dumbass! Stop it!"
As you might be able to tell, we're enjoying ourselves. I think after Star Wars, we might move on to James Bond, or the Godfather movies. There's a lot we haven't seen.
