So. Disappointed.

I went into Berk's on Thayer Street tonight with the intention of finding fun shoes, preferably Awesome Boots. Unfortunately, most of the store was dedicated to trends that were popular in 1987. Yes, there were a dozen pairs of boots, but they were all approximating those worn by Mona on "Who's the Boss?", and I don't roll that way ( Read more... )

adventure, wtf!, good ideas, fail, keyword-1, movies, books, weird

LOL! Thank you, thank you. I needed this giggle and I'm sorry it came at at the cost of your fashion despairing.

I was wondering where all the plaid was coming from....

Oh I am so glad it has amused. It's like Seattle Grunge rose from the dead and is parading zombie-like across the nation.

And I STILL don't have my BOOTS!

OH GOD MUST WE?

Ha! I hope not, but it does seem that way. I have noticed the resurgence of plaid but I didn't think to put all the blame on one costume designer who wanted to evoke the Pacific Northwest. *headdesk*

Just to add to the general despair: you can also read like Bella.

Although I have to disagree with every disparaging comment made about Wuthering Heights by the blurb/reviewer (Catherine in Wuthering Heights is LESS feisty than Austen heroines? Good GOD, have you not READ these books???), I enjoyed the comparison of Bella to an "emotionless, thoughtless block of concrete."

Perhaps it will expose Twilight fans to actual good writing. The shock might kill them, but there's still hope.

I have to admit I tried to read WH years ago and gave up; I really ought to try it again. But it does seem like there's a good chance the Twilighters would get into it. Isn't Heathcliff a necrophiliac? He and Bella have that in common...

And omg, I absolutely love that icon.

There is a lot going on in WH with undying love, dust mingling together, sneaking a cuddle with a corpse...some of the many reasons I love it so.

Catherine Earnshaw is the wildest, most unpredictable heroine I've met in c19 British lit. Jane Austen's heroines don't come close to being this "feisty," a word that is not spicy enough to describe her. Heathcliff is also wild, a gypsy boy her father took in when they were children. As a couple they make the bland, emotionless passion of Bella and Edward look even more bland and emotionless (if that is actually possible).

This icon is extremely awesome, but for the life of me I cannot remember who made it, which upsets me.

Hmmm, think I'll quite happily *not* have any resemblance in any way, shape or form to Bella!

This is amazing/terrifying.

Also, I live a half mile from Thayer! If you come down this way again, let me know. I will pull out all my flannel and also serve you tea.
