I went into Berk's on Thayer Street tonight with the intention of finding fun shoes, preferably Awesome Boots. Unfortunately, most of the store was dedicated to trends that were popular in 1987. Yes, there were a dozen pairs of boots, but they were all approximating those worn by Mona on "Who's the Boss?", and I don't roll that way.
Newly-arrived-from-and-soon-returning-to-Austin
flynny77 and I were surprised to see, as soon as we walked into the store, a rack dedicated to plaid clothing that looks like everything from my wardrobe back in 1991. (Hint: In 1991, I wasn't cool like I am now.) One of the shirts was going for about 47 USD. (Why oh WHY did I give all those old clothes to the Salvation Army? I could be starting Moira's college fund on eBay right now!)
On the top of the rack was a big announcement: "Dress Like Bella from Twilight!"
OH GOD MUST WE?
What, exactly, makes Bella's wardrobe attractive? We tried it all through the '90s, that utterly forgettable fashion decade. And plaid flannel isn't where it stops. For around 80USD (and after waiting many weeks) you can own
Bella's mittens. Really? 80 dollars? They aren't even CUTE for crying out loud. I have more attractive oven mitts. I have more attractive GOLF CLUB COVERS. They are the most cartoonish imported handwarmers I have ever seen. So, you might THINK you're Dressing Like Bella, but actually you're dressing like you're hiding a heinous Giant Hand Deformity.
You can
win Bella's jacket. There is nothing wrong with this jacket. However, I still find the whole Bella fashion phenomenon to be very creepy.
But not as creepy as
smelling like Bella. You know--that super-humanly desirable smell that drives certain vampires crazy with passionate longing?
Anyway, once you've attracted the Right Man (Cheekbones Like Sword Blades, Really Big Hair, Pale), you can get a
wedding dress like Bella!111!! OMG! I personally would go with the design by Brian Reyes, because it looks like a tapeworm with a freakishly mutated head being electrocuted. At least it's not plaid.
