I completely agree.
Thing is: the people who agree with you, already agree. The people who don't, think that it's okay that we did it because we needed to; it was okay to execute Japanese for doing it because they were Bad Guys. There's a basic level of self-justification and rationalization that you're entirely missing because you're approaching this from the viewpoint of the logic of equality.

Actually, Diane Rehm's program on the CIA memos this past Wednesday featured repeated mentions that the US had prosecuted waterboarding as a war crime in the past, such as the case you cite. But NPR is pretty far outside the mainstream, and you're right most "regular" news sources seem to have their heads up their be-hinds on this subject. I think we need to pursue every avenue to make it clear this was a momentary lapse on the US's part and we will not tolerate this kind of idiotic policy for even a minute, including trying former administrations officials if needed to make a convincing case. But randomdreams is right, it's rather an uphill battle to convince certain demographics of this. :(

CNN article today that people who attend church are MORE LIKELY to support torture. Love it. Just...love it.

I am so posting that on my FB page to get back at my "friend," who was the 400,000th person to join the group "Put Christ Back in Schools."
