She preferred cinnamon to sentiment for breakfast.

There's always one line in these short stories that just kills me. Excuse me while I blubber inarticulately.

This is perhaps the most terrifying thing I've read of yours thus far--and I mean it as an enormous compliment! Horror is a difficult thing to write.

(White-Harp thanks you for the shoutout. o(^.^)o <---- yes, that's a smiling White-Harp emotion.)

That was the line that got me too, in title-consultation! (at which I was predictably useless). I really love the reinforcement of the practical acceptance of reality over the might have beens for Karen.

It also speaks to me that, in her human way, Karen is kind of a lot like Nick. :)

Ooooh, I did not see that at all, but I think that is certainly a valid (and v. interesting) reading.

'Karen thought they did not know each other very well, and while the boy in the chair might have liked to make friends, the thug had absolutely no desire to know him better.'

I love seeing the relationship from the outside! Also, Nick's comment about mum missing Alan because he's the one who feeds her and it's so strange seeing them like that after reading lexicon and I love it (:

Also, I love Gerald. (: (did you mean to call him Gerald once instead of Gerry?) Scoping for lonely elderly people and thinking he'd doing the right thing. Misguided soul that he is (:

Is it Mae yet?

I did not mean to, well caught and I have changed it. ;)

I have fun with the relationship from the outside - I have read some readers saying that Nick's feelings for Alan are obvious, and they are a lot less obvious outside his head! So I hoped people might think it was fun to see.

It is almost Mae! Very very close.
