I've been meaning to stop by this house for years and it recently had a fire and reminded me that it won't be standing for much longer along I-65.
So I went to Asheville, NC by myself this time and I was determined to stop there. I got there at just the right moment to catch the sunset change color and intensity by the minute.

We went to the dark sky part of Michigan to see the meteor shower.
The full moon was too bright and we didn't see any.
But we had an amazing three day mini-escape.

Liberty, New York.
It used to have three screens and could hold 520 cars.
It opened on June 18, 1949. It closed in 1997.

I've been slowly working on getting up to date and I am still working on May 2022.
Today I bring you Homowack Resort. Sadly, this resort burned to the ground this week in a fire that had more than 150 firefighters present and that is so hot it has reignited three times now. It joins more than a hundred other Borscht Belt Hotels that have been ( Read more... )

Initially The Jacobs, then the Delmar, and finally La Minette. Nothing could delay the inevitable, not even renaming the hotel. It was eventually sold and operated as a drug rehab center for a while before closing completely.

This was a smaller hotel - able to host about 150 guests spread out amongst 6 different buildings.

The oldest of the resorts - built in 1848 - White Lake Mansion House is still standing.
Out of respect for what is still obviously a somewhat cared for property I didn't try to get into it.
