Palmerston North to Waitara

I must have messed up on my dates somewhere, because my last entry was for March 30th, but I know this entry is supposed to be about April 1st. The reason I know this is because I departed from Erin and Ben's in the afternoon and did not make it very far before I GOT A FLAT TIRE. We remember that I got a flat tire ten days earlier, yes? So not ( Read more... )

Talking on the radio sure sounds scary! I'm glad Pamela and her husband made it through the car accident alive! =D

The third to last picture, with rocks peppering the sea, looks really mesmerizing. I think I haven't seen anything like it!

And the last picture made me smile, for some reason. =P

They had a lot of recovery to do, of course, but Pamela actually completed a marathon and climbed a mountain last year, so she has overcome the adversity in amazing ways.

Happy dogs always make me smile too. :)

the colours!
yes, I agree about that waterfall photo. just stunning!

when I took the '40 minute quickie' around Taranaki [it was just before the ranger site closed for the day], it was cold and damp. or so I thought. an English walker I met said it was actually sleeting higher up. the next morning there was snow down to 300 metres, and the view was perfectly framed by our hotel window. *sigh*

next week, Gadget

I think because Taranaki stands alone, one is less likely to remember that mountains can cause rapidly changing and varying weather conditions -- but as you experienced, that is still the case!

I was looking at Taranaki on the Google Maps satellite and it looks stunning from above with snow on it. :)

we knew the weather was closing in that day. it was the usual "name, rank, and serial number' bit. the track was basically through the woods around the site and back into the top carpark, as they were waiting for me to get back before they closed.

have you 'watched' the Lake Tekapo live webcam? it's been snowing. my Beloved has wimped out of going back for a look and a play. :(
but, you've given me an idea with the google maps bit.. i wonder about Hanmer? i just won't tell him if there's snow there. he's one of those who likes temperatures sunny and between 18-26C.

It hasn't occurred to me to watch any webcams, but that's probably good as I think it would make me miss it too much. It's hard enough just going through my photos! :|

The satellite maps aren't in real-time, but the landscapes are still stunning to look at.

I'd count it as a good thing if there's snow at Hanmer... rolling in it and then jumping in the hot pools would be fab! Having said that, I think I would get along with your Beloved as I also enjoy that temperature range and the presence of sunshine!
