Later in the show KITT gets this passive laser restraint system that I guess holds you in your seat like a seatbelt, so I can see why there are no seatbelts after that, but right now I don't think he has it. I guess seatbelts weren't cool enough looking. I think you can actually see where it's been removed

When I get to that episode and watch it again I'll see what I think about calling KITT his car there. But that whole scene is really just...::swoons::He says both 'You're my car' and 'You're mine'. He also says that Kitt is programmed to respond to him, something which he brings up again in 'Soul Survivor' - I think Michael is quite taken with the fact that Kitt was created solely for him! It's not a master and slave thing, although Michael does get the last say in controlling the *car*, but he's still quite possessive
( ... )
Kitt's own perspective of his gender might be determined by Michael.
Ooo!! Interesting thought--except in the pilot Devon was calling KITT a "he" when Michael was still calling him "it". So KITT may be learning from Michael, but I think the fact that Devon and Bonnie are also reinforcing that gender identity helps to strengthen it.
n that nasty season four episode, Kitt rattles off a list of preferable qualities in his ideal 'mate' (I think 'removable top' comes into it!) - he's talking about another car, but the woman he is talking to completely misinterprets him
::bleah face:: You are totally reinforcing my notion that I don't ever need to watch season 4. Ick!
Anyway, I think Kitt was programmed to sound male - probably so that Michael would adjust to him as a 'partner' - but isn't necessarily masculine or feminine until he's been hanging around Michael for a while.Hmmmmm, interesting thought. Very very interesting thought. Putting the slash glasses on, that really does make one wonder why Michael, erm, constructed a male
