Autosummarize Meme

I've seen this everywhere around LJ, but I needed to get help from janedavitt and sallymn to actually do it. (Word 2007 no longer has the autosummarize feature, as far as I can tell, and they kindly did it for me ( Read more... )

I - don't understand - how does this work?

Well, I couldn't do it for myself, but what you do is take one of your stories and open it in Word (any version before Word 2007). On the "tools" menu is a command called "autosummarize". Set the length to 100 words and it will automatically create a drabble-ized version of your story.

I've got to try it . . . .

No kidding!! Just *look* what it did to Tracker! ::snerk::::facepalm::

It's a good thing this ATF story is going so well, or it really *might* have stunned the muses into silence. :D

*snerk* The Tracker version is great!! That about sums up Chris and Vin half the time!! *shakes head*

I really wish I could do this, it sounds wickedly fun and I'd like to try it with my fics.

I would love to see an autosummarized version of Past Life Regression. :D

Hee!! OMG!! I'm going to have to look around here, I think one of our work comps has an older version of Word, I'm almost SURE of it!

It really is very funny!!

I'd probably be compulsively doing all of them if I didn't have to bug folks for it. :D I'd love to see something like Cowboy--just straight PWP.

Let me try that comment again...it's still sexy...even distilled to 100 words.

The Tracker one is a hoot; I giggled my way through it. Then I looked at the story, and was getting drawn in, but I'm very frustrated. I've never seen M7, and I don't know these people. I've looked at your ep posts with pics, but I still can't make heads or tails out of who's who or how they relate to each other.

I'd love to see you do a Background Information post, with pictures, the way I did for the Sentinel. It would be a tremendous resource for newbie fans.

Thanks, hon!! ::hugs::

I didn't actually *have* that link and I also didn't have the time to put one together for her. I really really appreciate it!

Isn't it crazy how they're strange yet oddly true to the story...well, I don't know about Tracker, 'cause I don't know Mag7, but the one for Making Contact is...although Jim does seem to curse a lot. *g*

Whoever thought of this was a truly evil genius!

My favorite thing is the only dialog in Tracker is wonderful. "Make it Chris" and "Where's Vin?" Two things we can all relate to! :D

No kidding!! And it's addictive. If I could do it for myself, I'd be tempted to run all my stories through the grinder process. :D

It seems to extract whole sentences, and I very often leave curse words standing alone as an entire sentence to give them more emphasis. I think that's why they appear disproportionately.

But yeah, it's like some sort of Cubist version of the story--the colors are strange and the eyes are on sideways, but it gives the general feel anyway.
