Episode Notes: Starsky & Hutch "Pilot"

Nov 25, 2006 23:48

New show, new fandom, first episode of a whole new series!

Well, okay, new in a very broad sense of term. :)

I remember clearly watching Starsky & Hutch with my mother when I was little kid. I was seven when the show started airing. At age seven my favorite part of the show was them putting the flashing light on top of the car when they were in ( Read more... )

OMG I loved this show, love it more with the slashy visions of them, *g*
They just exuded so much love for each other in this show. I remember one episode where Hutch was injected with heroin to the point of addiction and Starsky helped him through the withdrawl. Starsky was so protective.
I bet I know which pic you'll use :: wanders over to look at the shoulder holsters and towel covered bods::
Great pictures. Thank you.

love it more with the slashy visions of them

Other fandoms have subtext, our fandom has canon text.

That's the whole truth!!

I was chatting with sassyinkpen, my partner in squee here, and she was telling me that someone she knows uses S&H as the way to explain slash. If the person doesn't get it she just says, "Like Starsky and Hutch" and the light dawns. :)

You can mention the show to people who are not slashers or even know what fandom is and they'll immediately go "oh, that show with the gay cops." It's kinda blatant;)

Hutch in the shower is so mmmmmmmm! I mean, just, GUH!

And if you have the DVDs, you can see more of David than you thought you could.

Hutch gave a girl his "thingamajig"? :)

I love that exchange because Starsky says "I didn't think it was that serious" and Hutch says "it's not." It's not serious, it's not gonna be serious, the girls always leave and Starsky always stays.

Captain Doby sounds like he gargles gravel.

Which is why I'm really, really glad they replaced Richard Ward with Bernie Hamilton.

-If they're supposed to be *undercover* cops, they're obviously not at all subtle about it. :)

That's the cover....who would suspect them if they're really, really visible?;)

Is it just me, or is Starsky constantly eating?? And mostly junk food. :)

He has an oral fixation. It's a theme throughout the show. I love him for that.

Hutch was married to a woman named Nancy?? For how long? How long ago?? When? That's a long-standing debate--whether Nancy was the first Mrs. Hutchinson or the only Mrs. Hutchinson (a nickname for ( ... )

Have you seen the bloopers yet? Bad quality but very entertaining:

Your friend who posted above was talking about "The Fix" - Hutch on heroin, and Starsky holding onto him - electric. It was the episode that bowled a lot of us over during the first run of the series, and I don't think we ever got over it:)

Wonder if you mind if I link to this post from my website? It's great to see and read these first time reactions:)

here's something else for you to look at re: the pilot:

Go right ahead and link to this post. Thanks!! Gosh!

I don't know that I'll hold myself to a *schedule* with the episode notes for this show (I have two other shows that I do an episode a week for), but there will undoubtedly be more and I will definitely crosspost them to the starsky_hutch comm.

here's something else for you to look at re: the pilot:

GUH!! Makes me wish I could zoom in like they do in CSI all the time....GUH!

The Fix is one of the two or three S&H eps I've seen since I was little. And I can imagine that it was quite the powerful squee-maker when originally aired. :)

Hey, that was fun to read! It's always fun to see an old fave through a new fan's eyes.

I love the two bad guys, too. When the one is watching tv and the other is tolerantly letting him while reading Voltaire at the same time, they are like mirror images of Starsky and Hutch. They are S&H gone bad!

And of course, John Wayne always wins. The good guys always win on this show. The bad guys never had a chance.

Thanks for commenting! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I almost added in my notes "In this show even the bad guys are slashy." :) But since I was trying not to be *horribly* gen-unfriendly (in accordance with the comm rules) I didn't say it in my notes. :D

Thanks again!

Oh, I'm so happy you're doing these! I haven't watched the show in forever, but I loved it when I was a kid, watched it every week religiously. This is the show when I realized that I had a serious sidekick fixation, 'cause I was completely head over heels in love with Starsky. I think I must have been about the same age as you - seven or so - but even at that age I knew that there was something more going on between them...:-)

::hangs head::

I must have been backwards as a kid or something, because it never crossed my mind. Except that I hated the episodes where they had serious, threatening girlfriends. So maybe it did cross my mind. :)

Really, the main thing I remember was Hutch's arm sticking the light on the top of the car. Embarrassing, but there you are.

I enjoyed reading this! I'm new to the fandom too (just finished season two), it's cool that there's other people still getting into the show.

After watching S&H interact, it's funny when someone in another fandom mentions something they consider to be slash-y subtext. I find it difficult to actually see what they're on about.

I'm so new I haven't even gotten an icon yet. :) (I'll make one this afternoon. ;) )

Yeah, S&H is all kinds of slashy. I have trouble seeing a lot of the subtext that other slashers see in other shows, it's fun to have it be so *blatant*!
