There Goes The Neighborhood

There's been a lot of talk lately over whether or not Pluto gets to stay a planet. The latest proposal under consideration would not only allow it to stay a planet, but would add three new planets to our solar system, and possibly bunches more.

That's all well and good, but what I really want to know is, does Cybertron get to keep its planet ( Read more... )

IIRC, Cybertron has a sun in BM.

Wouldn't know, sadly. Guess they eventually got around to getting it out of the Sol system, after all.

Correct me if I'm wrong (not that awefully well versed in the TF universe as you OBV), but doesn't Cybertron orbit Earth in the cartoon? That owuld technically mean it's lost it's planet status (if it ever had any), because it's a moon.

Someone else on my LJ flist coinicidentally posted this link and it explains there's two rules (if these are agreed upon and we end up with more planets):
"A planet is a celestial body that (a) has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape, and (b) is in orbit around a star, and is neither a star nor a satellite of a planet."

Or did Cybertron orbit the Sun (and was always visible at Earth's surface)?

Actually, in the article I linked, it includes the full definition. That's why at one point I mentioned the roundness, but mostly I was just chattering about stars because that's the main problem Cybertron has with being a planet ( ... )

Cartoon writers trying to come up with a plot or reasoning? That would be headline news. ;)

I agree, I noticed earlier today Charon's rather unique relationship with Pluto. If Cybertron and Earth circled each other, than yes that would make Cybertron a planet. One could wonder what that does to Earth though if that happened for real (and in that sense the cartoon might not have been that far off come to think of it).

It would probably end up destroying humanity, but then, that would be why they made it go away before the end of the episode. :)

Unicron, however, is in quite a mess. His wandering, gypsy ways means...

... I now have a mental picture of Cyclonus & Scourge wearing scarves and dancing in the palm of Unicron's hand whilst Galvatron plays the fiddle. Fang you berry dutch!

*bows.*

I aim to serve!

I was particularly pleased with that turn of phrase, but then, I was far more amused than I should have been with, "numnumnum."

Some days I just crack myself up. ^_^

Yes, but is that an official definition that's been voted on. I only accept officially cleared definitions!
