This is all very much thought out. Some things I would do differently, but then it's your world (and labeled as that). Some things are interesting others funny (can you imagine John's face if he found out that Rodney and Elizabeth were married way back when?) It's all very interesting Bye
That's what I meant, when I said that you said so. I'd already suspected it wouldn't sound that way, sighs. No I really thought it was interesting. And sometimes really funny too.
What bugs me sometimes is the explenation that the gates put a common language into peoples heads, because we haven't seen any evidence of that on earth. But I think it makes a lot more sense than the gates instantly translating everything (an explenation I've seen too) in the sense that you can still chose to speak another languange. Of course the explenation is a million times better that Everybody speakes English. (Even the ancients who died before the language was even "invented") So yours is one of the explenations I CAN live with.
I think it's because "I'd do it differently, but you labeled it your own variation," while inherently unobjectionable, carries connotations of... ah... non-appreciation for the "own variation," unlike, say, "I'd do it differently, but yours is interesting/internally consistent."
Have you a personal deuterocanon list posted at some community?
Out of curiosity, what did you find funny? My sense of humor doesn't always translate well, so I like to know where I got it right.
//What bugs me sometimes is the explanation that the gates put a common language into peoples heads, because we haven't seen any evidence of that on earth.//On the other hand... granted, I'm much more of an SGA than an SG-1 person, but I had the impression that the gates in the Milky Way predated the ones in Pegasus. I theorize therefore that while the Pegasus gates give a common language, it was a later development. (Perhaps one or two of the Milky Way ones might have first implemented it, but...) Once everyone in Atlantis had a common language they knew by heart

Oh, I love this. Love how everything fits together, all the little details that aren't really necessary but make it feel real. I kind of want to just ... I dunno ... smush it? Um. Yes?
Yeah, not one of my more coherent comments, I know.
It's just, I want to know more about this world. Now. And crawl into it and explore for a while. And read its history books and stuff.
(In totally unrelated matters - for some reason, neither this comment nor the previous one showed up on my friends list. Any idea why that might be? I'm kinda miffed, since it took me two days to wander over here on my own. Also? I wrote some backstory for John's, er, back. Just so you know.)
Also, those last three, about John? Ring very very true.
He actually knows this, but he's gotten into the habit of not saying it for so long that he has trouble finding the words to hint at it to other people. Besides, they might ground him, and he wants the sky the way Hill-men want their Hills.
I fell in love with that poem of Kipling's a long time ago, and thought then how it was applicable to more than the two situations he'd written into it.
Thank you for all of your wonderfully kind comments; doing this made me think of twenty... and then forty... and then sixty things to say about my pet AU, as distinct from my views of SGA-in-general. (I friendslocked it, though, as half of them won't make much sense without the proper setup.)
I enjoyed reading your GW deuterocanon. Some made me laugh, most made me think. 1. I agree, Zechs is totally channeling Char. And I’m with Howard- I’ve also watched way too much Transformers. Mecha origami- how cool. I would never have watched any Gundam if I hadn’t been a mechahead to start with. 2. That’s actually something I’ve wondered about, too- if they could write something as complex as a Zero system, why not write in a kickout? Pilot training ain’t cheap. 4. It does make more sense to think of the AC ‘verse as an AU to ours. Some things parallel, others are more advanced (space colonies) and others lag (cel phone tech). 5,6. I like the Cinq/Cinque distinction. The family/power relationships have always confused me; I like your version- makes sense and makes the characters more 3-D. 11. Preventer 5- snerk! Yes!

About half his actions really can't be explained any other way, either. ^_^

Although humans actually do seem to be the cheapest part of the unit for the Bartons and their allies; one wonders what the Mads were telling them.
(That and the Mads' tradition of leaving it to the pilots to compensate for lack of safety interlocks dates right back to the Tallgeese.)
//I like the Cinq/Cinque distinction.//
Thanks! I love playing with languages.
//The family/power relationships have always confused me;//
I was so tempted to just throw in the large family tree I cooked up for #6, but my notations probably wouldn't make sense to anyone but me.
//Preventer 5- snerk! Yes!//
It makes NO SENSE. Particularly when the rest of Episode Zero -- one of these things is not like the others. Therefore, I refuse to accept it as canon.
Well, there are a few more here and the ones for my pet AU are friendslocked here, but largely these are sort of my notes for stories I really do mean to get around to writing, someday, if nothing gets in the way.

I thought that was the point of posting personal deuterocanon, to show what we were working from and what we each would have done differently?
