This pisses me off. Not the concept of tracking people and synthesizing behavior/buying patterns, whatever. That's slightly distasteful, but it doesn't upset me. I'm even interested to some extent by the idea of extrapolating from external cues what people will like. It pisses me off that the jerks that had their movie fortunes read by those ( Read more... )

patterns of use, cultural tropes, labelling, moving pictures

I really really want to know what they would think mine is. Really really really. Would they guess it? I doubt it. I like Roman Holiday, though, that's a fun movie.

It's a fun game to play. I don't think they're that good. In fact, I think a good chunk of that article is fake -- considering their website doesn't even exist.

You like L'Histoire Du Cinema! Also you like Zupa and Revolver, which if you can find I'd be mighty indebted to you.

ARRRGH it's a terrible machine that tells me to watch crappy movies I've either already had TOO MANY MORONS recommend to me, or that I have ALREADY DISCOUNTED out of SHEER HATRED.

I was waiting for some "favorite flick is a porno" joke, and was dubiously rewarded at the end with one.

And the idiots who immediately think The Big Lebowski is just a stoner flick were probably also pissed off at The Hudsucker Proxy because that Jennifer Jason Leigh kept talking too gosh-darned fast, for crying out loud.

On the surface, it's not a LOT different than the games I play on the bus, assigning lives to people.

On the other hand....it still kinda rings false to me. Sorta made up. But what was the writer gonna do with his big story if his chosen synthesists flaked on him....? (Or maybe the folks were plants. I mean, the "experts" got to choose the restaurant.)

(Speaking of synthesists, there's one in Peter Watt's new novel, Blindsight. He's sold me on the character's personality, but not on his synthesis powers yet. It's good stuff so far, anyway.)

Hmm, I'll have to check it out. I sort of lost the faith with Behemoth, but whatever.

My prediction is that guys that think chicks that like The Big Lebowski = stoner sluts are, in fact, going to lose a lot of money at their little venture. Now, imagine what I would have said had you upgraded to the platinum membership.
