"Holmes’s heart is more akin to eyes; both were schooled early in life to reveal nothing."

That is an absolutely beautiful phrase, with a lovely story wrapped around it.
Thank you for posting it.

Ooh.. Speedy commenting!

That is one of the first things I wrote, straight after 'cold hands, warm heart' and it remained behind when a lot of other pomposity was BALETED.

Thank you!

Wow. Just... wow. I wasn't expecting to like this, honestly, given the dub-con nature at first, but wow. That ending.

Mmm... I was a bit horrified when I realised what my fingers were doing, but they were flying over the keyboards at a tremendous speed and in the end it seemed better not to let my moral compass get in the way.

I don't know if the ending redeemed it, really, but thank you for your wonderful comment.

No, the ending totally does redeem it, so don't worry. It also helps that, given that it's, well, Watson, you know in your heart he wouldn't actually hurt Mary. The ending just helped clarify that.

The idea with the cool fingers is wonderful - really well done!

I've read some of your other stories before and never commented but they're just as good. I love the way you create atmosphere in your writing and you're quite eloquent with words.

Mmm. That's a truly delicious premise. And quite warming, actually.

I'm glad someone is warm - I was outside with the laptop and an ashtray in the blustery Melbourne cold (yes it is actually summer here).

Thanks for commenting!

I read this (after a horrible day of horrible university lectures I might add) while listening to "The Pretender" by Jackson Browne. The result was mindblowing. You paint absolutely vivid pictures for your reader, dirty and gritty, hot and beautiful. Good work!
