Hitsug/Aki fic: Anniversaries

AN: as promised, the second chapter is up. only one more to go and, as you can see (or will see) i left the climax of the story for last, but i promise it'll be a happy ending.
chapter 3
“What the hell is wrong with you?!”
It had been three days since Hitsugi walked out of Aki’s house and he hadn’t called the bassist or answered Aki’s calls. So here he was, trying to forget everything and drink his problems away with Ni~ya. Well not completely, at the moment Ni~ya was being a nuisance and calling him an idiot for what he’d done to Aki.
“What are you talking about, Ni~ya?” Hitsugi asked tiredly, he so wasn’t in the mood to get yelled at. Yuuya-san and Sakito had done enough of that. Now he was getting an earful from Ni~ya. He thought the bassist would ignore the situation and get sauced with him. Oh, how wrong he was.
“Are you numb between the ears?! You love him, you’ve always loved him. That’s why you kicked Zannin’s ass all those years ago and that’s why no one who knows you goes near him.”
“What are you talking about?” he repeated slightly more interested in the conversation, though miffed that Ni~ya spoke that asshole’s name in his presence.
“It’s like…you know how dogs can smell when someone is taken-like something or someone has been marked?”
“Are you suggesting I’ve peed on Aki and now he has my ‘mark’?”
Hitsugi deadpanned, rolling his eyes and crooking his fingers in bunny quotes.
“No, you idiot-”
“You know, you don’t have to insult me to get your point across.”
“Apparently I do because only someone so dense can’t see that, like a dog, you act like a possessive animal whenever Aki’s name even pops up.”
“No I don’t. and don’t insult Aki.” By calling him a dog, Ni~ya was implying that Aki was his bitch. And while the picture his mind painted was a very tempting one, he still felt indignant enough on Aki’s behalf.
“See, you’re doing it right now.”
Again Hitsugi rolled his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest, looking like a pouting four year old.
“And I think, subconsciously, Aki knows he belongs to you.”
“What are you talking about?” Hitsugi asked once more, Ni~ya was making no sense at all-he was drunk, Hitsugi was sure of it.
“Is that gonna be your favorite phrase from now one? And I mean that you’re blind.”
“What-”
Ni~ya stopped him before he could finish and therefore prove him right.
“Aki doesn’t go out with anyone you know, have you noticed? Even people you’ve only met and get along with he avoids even flirting with. Do you know how many people he’s turned down just because they’re your friends?”
“But that doesn’t mean anything. You’re seeing things that aren’t there.”
“Now you’re the one who’s not seeing. When you’re too busy trying to make others believe you’re only his friend-”
“But that’s all I am to him.”
“But you want to be more!” Ni~ya snapped exasperated.
He was getting sick and tired of Hitsugi’s moping and woe-is-me attitude like an insecure little school girl. His meek attitude was aggravating and on top of it all, he also believed that Aki wasn’t in love with him. Talk about stupidity.
“Listen here, Hitsugi. Aki loves you.”
Hitsugi sighed dejectedly. If only that were true.
“He loves me, but he’s not in love with me. Not like I am in love with him.”
“What?”
The voice that joined the conversation sent a bucket of ice water down Hitsugi’s spine.
Aki.
