Amazing how you manage to flesh out Jensen's character, despite his present speech impedimnet: his power, strength, independence, protectiveness and even sense of humour. Jeff's so great here; glad he gets Jared and Jensen's situation and can offer objective advice and support.
Thanks! It was hard to be sure enough of Jensen was coming through. In earlier drafts I had these '10-year-ago interludes' that were Jensen POV. But ultimately I deleted these and let the story unfold as a mystery to both Jared and the reader. We are with Jared in this way, falling for Jensen based on what we're shown. Glad you think it's working.
Arrrgggh another cliffhanger! I am dying to know what Jeff learned about Jensen's past.
Awww, it was so nice to see him take off the hoodie.
“Can’t let you get hurt. I go, take trouble with me.” Jensen met his eyes. The ice was lit with an inner flame now. “They hurt you. Do you have any idea what that does to me?”
I just adore how much Jensen loves Jared, even with his problems and speech impediment and questionable past.
He took Jensen in a fierce hug -- fear, relief, pain, need, vibrated through him as he held on so tight he was afraid he’d hurt Jensen. But Jensen melted into him and simply absorbed.
Just a whole world of awwwwww there. :)
Nice twist with Jeff's schizophrenic brother also being gay.
There’s something … special … about people like Joel, like Jensen. Something almost magical.
This is so true. I see it all the time with the other autistic kids my daughter has in her life.
Thanks so much. I'm definitely romanticizing Joel's schizophrenia here. Artistic license. But he turns into an important character for both Jensen and Jared. And Jeff is very understanding with very good reason. All these folks ended up getting together because of a very common sensibility. It was fun bringing them all together.
Thanks. This is definitely when Jared starts realizing the depth of his feelings for Jensen. I'm glad you felt that. Thanks for reading and for your ongoing comments. I can't wait to hear what you think of my conclusion.
Your writing really pulls me into the reality of the story. When Jared is reflecting on where Jensen spends the night, possibly on the gum - and piss - and roach covered ground. I was glad that Jared asked Jensen to work at the shelter, to be a volunteer
( ... )
I was wondering about Jensen cleaning things, leaving them better than the way he found them, like it’s a way to make atonement because of the curse (he’s ugly inside and out).
Wow, woman. I've had hundred of comments on this story. (Been really blessed that way). Not to mention my friend and beta all over it numerous times. And nobody pointed out what you did (which was absolutely intentional!) Your comments just make me squee! My other very intentional small thing revolves around the showering. I mention it a lot. More than is necessary. He's washing himself and Jared keeps urging it. It's not just hygiene. It's about shedding one's skin to get to what's underneath ;)
I did notice about the showers, and I was going to mention something earlier about how Jared noticed that Jensen's teeth were clean - nice and white - but I forgot. That certainly all makes sense now, shedding one's skin to get to what's underneath.
