So I got a ticket a few weeks ago (I think I posted about it briefly). Yes, I was speeding, but it still rankles because it's obviously a money making speed trap. Why else would the city set a 35MPH speed limit on the service road of an interstate highway (and then post a cop right where folks are stepping on the gas to build up enough speed to ( Read more... )

cancer, real.life, d'oh!

I'm in the same boat sister. I have top pay 2 parking tickets that were incurred while on the job.

I was dropping my boss and a display wall off at a hotel in a town south of here.

The hotel doesn't have any loading/unloading zones, which forces people to use the parking stalls.

I had to use 2 stalls so I could open the side doors on the van to get things out, without hitting any other cars.

And while running back & forth with my boss unloading the van, a parking enforcement twerp surreptitiously put 2 parking tickets on my van. Not even bothering to wonder why both side doors were wide open, wait for someone, or care what the bloomin' was goin on.

Someone coulda been dead inside for all they cared!

I guess I coulda parked in the firelane along side the hotel, but that woulda goten me a bigger ticket.

So now I have to pay $60 by the end of the week, money I don't have, because some twerp was ticket happy.

Forcing me to pay the higher $200 fee. Again, more $$$ that I DON'T have.

GRRR!!!

...And no, my boss won't pay any of it even though HE was the one who told me to park there and the company logo was on the side of my van making it company business.

Yet another reason why I want another job elsewhere.

GRRR!!!

This isn't the same spot that was mentioned in the news a couple weeks ago is it? There was a big hubbub about a 35mph access road that had received more tickets than anywhere else in the metroplex because the cops were camping out there. Can't remember where it was though.

I wouldn't be surprised. I haven't watched the news in some time (just too depressing for my current state of mind), but that spot on I-35 just north of Belt Line is a frequent cop squat.

Feh.

That area is 35 mph? Ridiculous. I'm pretty sure I hit more than 35mph on that stretch just after my car accident with my car hood crunched up and smoke still pouring from the airbags. I guess any cops who saw me took pity on me.

At the risk of stepping on a landmine..... maybe the reason you're not wielding that card effectively or properly is because you're not supposed to use it. Because that's victim mentality, that's I Am Helpless, Absolve Me of Responsibility mentality. And you're not a victim. You're a fighter. You've chosen the path of vitality and vigor and affirmation; is it so surprising that the weapons of the defeatist are not available or effective for you? Would you really WANT them to be?

stepping off the landmine, I agree that you have every right to be screamingly indignant about that ticket. I loathe that kind of municipal manipulation.

I so hear you, sister! minirth September 30 2009, 03:47:08 UTC
I just had a massive phone bill that I could have avoided had I NOT avoided looking at the previous months' unpaid phone bill, which would have alerted me that picking up a 30-60 minute a day habit with a non AT&T customer could cost me hundreds of dollars unless I adjusted my rate plan. Yeah. (And no, the "pick 10 numbers you can call for free" is NOT retroactive, and that JUST started.)

So I fucking hear you. I just spent money I don't have to pay a bill I could have avoided. It fucking SUCKS. I'm sorry it happened to you too.
