UBoC and yes, I'd recommend it. I've been with Washington Mutual and Wells Fargo also, and they're fine if you never incur any fees or have any overdraft issues or don't need access to deposited funds quickly.

bank of america blows.
my boyfriend and i left BOA and signed up at washington mutual online (because their hours are inconvenient) - so far i've had a good experience and his has been BEYOND awful. he's recently switched to an ING direct internet-only checking account (it's called electric orange) and he's thrilled so far. i'm thinking of switching as well. they give you nearly 5% interest on your checking account (no minimum), and all the checks and bill payments and things are just done online, which we prefer anyway.
good luck.

i have an account with the san diego county credit union (and i have my car loan through them, too). they are awesome. really helpful, really personable -- a definite change from Bank of Ass. i highly recommend them.

Ditto. So helpful and friendly. Credit unions are basically non-profit (member-owned) so they don't charge stupid fees.

i think this is the post you are referring to - http://community.livejournal.com/san_diego/1966936.html

seems like everyone has good and bad experiences with pretty much all banks. i guess it depends on what services you use and what is important to you. i stick with BofA because they have a lot of branches/ATMs near me and i don't want to pay fees. i don't use banking services that often (i do everything online or at ATMS), so i never have to deal with the people.
