Survey Question #5: What are you doing here?

Jul 10, 2003 02:31

Possibly the biggest question:

What do you think is the reason you are here on Earth--your purpose in life?

My reason... )

My goal in life is to be happy :) To live, to love, to laugh; and to learn and to teach. I also have the hope to be a positive force of change in the world, but have come to the conclusion that the biggest changes I can make are in me... and am coming to the conclusion that sorrow and suffering are not necessarily bad things. And yet I still want to make the world a better place.

Guess I'm a little sappy, too ;)

Personally I think we're here for both reasons - to learn personal lessons and to help the world and all it's people evolve.. much like your idea with mutual respect and happiness. :)

I like the idea of helping people evolve. I try to do that with the people I encounter in my day-to-day life.

I can't help thinking, though, of the millions of people who are just struggling to survive. They'd like to evolve, surely, but it's all they can do just to keep going.

Ok, this is what I think... lunakitten July 10 2003, 09:12:32 UTC
Each life we touch, each person we enlighten (or we allow to enlighten us) each loving act, good deed is the reason we are here. The idea that God (insert your definition of deity here) was so lonely that s/he split into billions of parts so as to have friends makes me think that whatever you do, however small the effect (affect? I always mix those up) makes a difference in the world. So basically, I think I am here to create small positive changes in the world, to love as many people as I can, to raise a tolerant loving and diverse child (who herself will create positive changes) to be an activist in those causes I believe in, and to encourage others to do the same.
Whew.. didn't mean to ramble,(and I hope this made sense) but that got me thinking...not good on so little sleep.

I have been reliably informed that my purpose in life is to a) act with ethical passion b) inspire passion in others, for whatever they need passion in and c) create as much art--visual, writing, whatever--as humanly possible.

Also, I am a catalyst. Drop me into an unstable situation, and I create change. I'm here to very quietly challenge people's assumptions. (Or, in some cases, not so quietly.)

Among other things. :)

May I ask how and by whom?

I love to do that. More often than not, I adopt an in-your-face approach. I'm good-natured about it; I just play Devil's Advocate as hard as I can and see where it leads. Gotta keep people's brains on their toes! (You know what I mean.)

*heh* I always sound like a nutball when i say this but...i have a, um, very personal relationship with the aspect of the divine that has elected to call me hers. she tells me lots of stuff. Sometimes, I even listen to her. (sometimes, she is full of shit, also. And she has her own agendas that I've never even begun to be able to guess at.)

And, yep--keeping certian people on my toes is something i'm pretty good at. only certian people, though, I don't tend to do it to the world at large, unless I'm at work, where it's basically my job to surprise people. :)

It seems that the others here have similar views to my own. I try to improve what lives I touch, to learn and to love. I wrote a poem about it in 1999.

Desitny
A bridge spanning a thousand lifetimes
One tendril of light
Propelled by the hand of the Goddess
Artemis’ mercy
Hestia’s fire
Athena’s strength
Aphrodite’s passion
I am a torch, flaring flame
Lighting what lamps I may
Illumining the footfalls
Of those who travel this bridge
