The anime series I watch, and why.

Don't ask me why I got started thinking about this at work, but I'm on my lunch break, so why not? (Movies will be covered in a later post... probably.) And I'm sure there's stuff on here you wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole, and there's stuff you can't believe isn't on here. That's fine. I have a list of stuff I WANT to see (and have not yet ( Read more... )

*reads comments on TB* I take it you like the priests then. *L* When I first heard about the series, I admit I didn't think I'd like it. This was mainly due to the descriptions and other infomation I read didn't really do it justice (have a wild guess as to what the first description I came across was), although the fact that at the time I was pretty heavily into Hellsing (in which the Vatican are more or less the enemy, well one of them) probably didn't help. But I decided to give it the benifit, watched the first episode and was hooked instantly. While this was partly due to Abel and then numerous other characters, the series also appealed to my asthetic preferences, which are probably rather odd. Surfice to say the whole gothic-meets-scifi thing that the series has going for it is, to me at least, a very good thing. The fact that the artwork is completely droolworthy also helps. All that plus a decent storyline? The gods of anime must be in a really good mood about something. The only two gripes I have about the series is a ( ... )

If you're into fighting the whole way through the series, watch DBZ. BASILISK is much the same.

Nah. I saw a bit of DBZ a while back and didn't think much of it, probably because I dislike that style of animation. Plus there's a balence involved. Too much violence can get boring. It's just that, you know how on TB there's often a couple of minutes worth of talking before the fighting starts? Well, I can get a bit impatiant, particuarly if there's a possiblity of Abel going Crusnik and/or the bad guy is on my list of characters I want to beat-up/shove off a cliff/eviscarate. If I really need a violence fix I read Hellsing.

*is inordinately proud that she got you started on Princess Tutu*

It really is a wonderful series, isn't it? Just judging from the title, you would think that's possible. ^_^

Ironically enough, I really do wish they'd picked a different title. What, I have no idea, but I wish they'd picked something else.

And in true Samurai_ko fashion, I have begun creating a 'trailer' for PT to hook some of my other friends on the show. It is coming out quite nicely, considering I have to do it on my computer instead of John's. I wish I were at home right now working on it instead of being stuck at work, but oh well...

I owe tv for 98% of what I've seen. From DBZ and TB on Cartoon Network, S7 and Basilisk on IFC, and Kiddy Grade and Spiral on Funimation TV. Saiyuki was based on a trailer and Internet pics and Weiss Kreuz was Internet only. I always finish what I start and collect the ones I loved the most. Sorry I'm rambling, been a little lonely over here. Going now.

Because for the longest time, I didn't have cable (and had a hell-slow connection via Internet), I'd rent the first couple of volumes of a series, and decide if it was worth getting.

The only series on the list that I don't have the whole thing of at this point is TRINITY BLOOD (I watched all of DBZ, but when I heard that FUNimation was re-doing the first three sagas, I sold my older versions to get the uncut stuff).

DBZ was the first Anime CN showed and I wasn't collecting at the time but wound up saving the whole thing on VHS tapes. I didn't even have internet at the time(everyone wanted a credit card and I didn't have one yet). I continued saving to VHS until CN moved Yu Yu Hakusho from late night to afternoon and butchered it with edits. Since then I've been hooked on DVD's.
Weiss Kreuz was a convention impulse buy two years ago(the box set was a low priced steal). I had only seen pictures on line and was hooked.

A dirtyrottonnewgoodnick friend hooked me on Full Metal Alchemist, my first anime since Captain Harlach killed us all, then she gave me the ENTIRE Gundam Seed collection, and showed me G Wing, the wretch! So I've mailed her Peacemaker, and threaten her with Sam 7. Samurai 7 I found in the marvelous mag, NEWTYPE. The artwork for Kambei KILLED me, I actually prefer the adult male hotties to the truly young bishies.

T'Amara has more to watch but not from this work 'puter. My puter is sick.

Is the picture of Kambei this great one of him in profile, drawing the katana, with an overshadowing closeup of his face just behind it?

If not, remind me when I get my husband's computer up and running again to send it to you.

If you really wanna threaten your friend with S7, make her watch my video for it. :D

Never seen FMA, never seen Captain Harlock (although I did see 'Queen Emeraldas'), never seen GS or G Wing.

Ah, Chrno Crusade anime, huh? I haven't heard the English voices - the Japanese VAs were some of the most famous and very nice - but I daresay I'll never watch it again. I highly recommend the manga, though I don't know how much you'd like it after the anime. They're really that different. Personally I hate the anime, a lot, because it changed almost every single character and made them OOC in the little nuanced ways. Except maybe Chrno, but I'm not sure. They definitely did the worst with Satella and the Sinners, esp. Aion and Shader - I just, wow. Satella became a less reasonable person (and for some reason, in the anime she didn't know Fiore was alive), and the Sinners were just so dehumanized and turned into 2D parodies that it's not even funny. And a bunch of other stuff, but...uh, I'll skip that, since I was planning to post a rant to my journal soon. XD ( ... )

I've read the manga, too samurai_ko April 21 2007, 03:58:24 UTC
I consider them to be two takes on the same thing. I prefer the anime myself, but to each her own. And the ADV English cast was just terrific. You can actually hear Greg Ayres doing Chrno in one of the posts on my LJ (or in the SAMURAI 7 community) where I'd posted the seven doing voices in other shows.
