I agree that is a powerful scene! I don't really like when either of the boys are jerks nor when John is a total jerk though :/ it just doesn't sit well with me
I agree with you if they do it intentionally. The thing is, John doesn't mean to be... mean. He just has high expectations of his son, and demands results - like he usually does. Think of it like John is with Sam, only it's a reverse world where Sam's way of looking at the world (i.e - school's what's important) and Dean's technical skills aren't since his grades suck. It's a story about how high expectations can crush some people. Oh, and Sam's being a younger brother - picking on his older brotehr is his birthright ;)
I can "stomach" it if it's done for a reason, like what you said, but the author needs to explain to me why it's been done or if the POV is teen!Sam, then I can understand but I like for glimpses of Dad!John to show through you know?
Agreed. Although, I don't think it has to be from another POV. Sometimes having another character speak up is enough to start up a conversation that explains the characters's motives.
